FOGG Open Letter – November 15, 2009
FOGG wishes to thank all those who spent very long hours at Thursday’s Planning Commission meeting. We deeply appreciate the many supporters who stayed through the earlier agenda items and gave testimony on our behalf following the Planning Department’s informational presentation on the Northeast Embarcadero Study.
FOGG supporters did themselves proud with factual and personal testimony.
It is really gratifying to see such a wide range of support. Mom’s with young children to seniors with canes.
We came away with a small but important “victory” as the Planning Commissioners strongly urged the Planning Department to slow down the process and not to seek a final approval from the Commissioners until their Study has more definitive details and less ambiguity.
It now looks that we have until at least January, and possibly later before there is another hearing on approving the Planning Department’s Study. This however does not mean we can sit back and relax. Rather, we must intensify our efforts; build the case for protecting our open recreational space, and present concise and strong testimony at the next hearing.
Every “victory” also brings a price, and that price is the need for an active effort on behalf of our volunteers.
We will soon outline a plan of action that will call for active participation on many fronts by you.
“Victory” also means a real price in the increased intensity of work by our land use attorney, and that means a need for additional critical tax deductible donations. You couldn’t pick a better time to make your financial support work for a successful conclusion.

The Planning Department is scheduling another Community Workshop on Wednesday, December 16. There are no present details concerning format, but as soon as we hear from them we will ALERT you.
