FOGG Open Letter – March 3, 2011

On Wednesday, February 23rd, we attended with many of our Coalition partners a Scoping Meeting at Pier 1 concerning the Notice of Preparation (NOP) for the upcoming America’s Cup Races. The Port staff made their presentation as they prepare for developing an Environmental Impact Report (EIR).

You can read the Planning Department’s NOP by clicking on this link.  We suggest it is worth doing.  America’s Cup

After the Port’s presentation the testimony by interested parties had one loud and clear message: The TRAFFIC & TRANSPORTATION problems that will impact the Embarcadero neighborhoods during the event, particularly on race days. Some have said as many as 250,000 will view the races on any given day.

This gives us the opportunity to remind everyone that with the cooperation of our Coalition Partners (THD, BCNA and GGTA) and the professional work of the Asian Neighborhood Design (AND) staff, we have published and made available “A Community Vision for San Francisco’s Northeast Waterfront.”

While this Community Vision was completed before the City obtained the America’s Cup, there are a great number of realistic proposals within the document that must be addressed by the Planning Commission & Port.  We once again ask that you review this Plan by clicking on this link.  AND Northeast Waterfront Plan.

We will be approaching the San Francisco Planning Commission for a hearing and approval of this Vision, and will be asking our supporters to attend.  Please prepare yourself now.

You may also obtain a print copy of the AND Plan for $30.00 to cover printing and mailing.  Please write a tax deductible check to PDF/FOGG and mail it to Jim Eggert, Treasurer and CPA, 550 Davis Street #46, San Francisco, CA 94111.  In writing your check, please put “Community Vision” on the memo line.

More coming soon.
