FOGG Alert – September 25, 2011

September 25th, 2011

The Bay Citizen has posted a story on their website about the proposed 8 Washington Street development.  It will also appear in the Sunday, September 25, 2011 issue of the New York Times.

The article can be read at this link:  Bay Citizen – 8 Washington Development

FOGG feels it short changes the importance of how the proposed development would impact the thousands of families, youngsters and seniors who use the City’s only outdoor swim and tennis recreational facility in San Francisco.

The article places too much emphasis on the politics and power brokers at City Hall without considering our neighbors and friends in the community.

FOGG urges everyone to read the article and will look forward to your comments.

FOGG Alert – September 22, 2011

September 22nd, 2011

This is an update on the lawsuit filed by FOGG and our twelve coalition partners that was heard Wednesday, September 21, 2011 by Superior Court Judge Harold E. Kahn.

We thank all those FOGG supporters who attended this hearing.

Susan Brandt-Hawley, our Coalition attorney, did a brilliant job in presenting the Coalition’s Brief.  Judge Kahn, who had made a prior temporary decision before today’s hearing that would have denied our Coalition’s petition listened intently, and asked great questions.

Judge Kahn will now entertain a further Brief by Ms. Brandt-Hawley.  This brief will be heard on Wednesday, October 5, 2011.

We will provide further details as they become available, and we remain optimistic as to the outcome.

As always, FOGG will continue the effort to preserve our Community’s outdoor recreational facility.  We thank you for your continuing support.

FOGG Open Letter – August 23, 2011

August 23rd, 2011

FOGG is really pleased at the responses sent by over 50 supporters on the Draft Environmental Impact Report (DEIR) for the proposed 8 Washington Street/Seawall 351 project for luxury condominiums and a 420 space underground parking garage to be built on the GGTSC site.

The comments sent were concise, factual and covered all the key issues: Transportation, Height Limits, Shadows, Aesthetics, Parking, Sea Water Levels, America’s Cup Races Impact, Time of Construction, Luxury Condominium Need?, and most important the loss of the City’s Only Outdoor Pool and Tennis Court Recreation Center.  The responses, when printed out, stand 2” high!!

We thank all of our FOGG supporters who took the time and effort to research the issues and submit these comments.  They clearly show how united we are in preserving our open recreational space. Read the rest of this entry »

FOGG Alert – August 1, 2011

August 1st, 2011

FOGG really appreciates the turnout of supporters at the July 21, 2011 SF Planning Commission hearing on the 8 Washington Street project Draft Environmental Impact Report (DEIR).

Our speakers were terrific. Their testimony was factual and said a great deal as to inaccuracies and holes in the DEIR.  We owe a debt of gratitude to our attorney, Sue Hestor and FOGG consultant Brad Paul for researching and putting together much of the compelling testimony.

We feel the Commissioners paid attention to what our people had to say and took seriously our message – “KEEP THE COMMUNITY’S OPEN RECREATIONAL CENTER (GGT&SC) OPEN AND OPERATING WITHOUT TURNING IT INTO A SHADOW OF ITS PRESENT SELF!” Read the rest of this entry »

FOGG Memo – July 10, 2011

July 10th, 2011

We ask you to read this article published in the July 6-12, 2011 San Francisco Bay Guardian.

You can read at this link or read the article below:

Guardian Article

(FOGG Editor’s note:  The proposed project would demolish the existing recreation center’s 9 tennis courts and 2 outdoor pools and replace them with 4 tennis courts and 2 pools on top of a building along the Embarcadero, not taking into account the wind factor or noise from traffic.  Outdoor recreational space would be reduced by 52%).
